Ed Messina Honored – October 4, 2016

Sixty years ago today, on October 4, 1956, Ed Messina joined Severud-Elstad-Krueger, Consulting Engineers, now Severud Associates.  A steward of the firm for most of that time, he was named chairman of the board in 2006.

 

During his long career, Ed has designed buildings using almost every structural system and material.  He has engineered countless iconic and monumental projects, including the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., and the expansion of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as well as many projects at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also in New York City.  In 2010, Ed received the Homer Gage Balcom Award from the Metropolitan Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for his lifetime achievement and advancement of structural engineering.  Ed is an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).  He is also a past director of the New York Association of Consulting Engineers (now the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York, ACECNY).

 

Ed is licensed as a professional engineer in New York and was formerly licensed in 11 other states and the District of Columbia.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now the Polytechnic Institute of New York University).  Ed can be reached at (212) 986-3700, ext. 417 or emessina@severud.com.
