Blending History & Modernity in a Soaring Residential Tower

Severud Associates contributed structural engineering expertise to the unique 100 Vandam Street project, a 25-story residential tower that integrates the historic charm of old New York with modern design and construction.

Preserving the Past, Building the Future

This project presented a unique challenge: preserving the six-story brick facades and portions of the wood framing of existing buildings on the site while constructing a modern high-rise tower above. The Severud team rose to the occasion, designing new concrete slabs, shear walls, and columns that seamlessly connect to the existing structures.

Strong Foundation for a Soaring Structure

To ensure the stability and longevity of the tower, Severud engineered a robust foundation system consisting of a concrete mat paired with soil enhancement. This foundation is designed to be waterproofed and anchored to resist the hydrostatic pressures of the surrounding soil, safeguarding the building’s integrity and resiliency.

Sustainable Design for a Modern Lifestyle

100 Vandam Street not only embraces its historic roots but also incorporates sustainable design principles. The preservation of existing structures and the use of durable materials like concrete contribute to a reduced environmental footprint.

100 Vandam Street is a testament to Severud’s ability to deliver innovative and sustainable structural solutions that respect the past while embracing the future.
